This is a campaign for the American Lung Association that redirects the focus from outdoor air pollution to indoor air pollution. We view our homes as safe zones, but the alarming truth is that our living spaces incubate many microscopic health threats we cannot see, making indoor air pollution up to 30 times worse.
The texture was created from scanning empty scanner beds in the school computer labs, then blown up to 900%. This process becomes a metaphor for indoor air pollution. Scanners shine light onto a surface that seems relatively clean, but when we take a closer look we discover all the dust, scratches, and finger prints on a communal device.
The 36x72" poster is printed on a translucent material, then backlit by window light — literally shining light on the issue at hand.
